College Gardens Elementary School
Location: Rockville, MD
Owner: Montgomery County Public Schools
Architect: Robert J. Glaser & Associates
Delivery: CM At-Risk
The purpose of the College Gardens Elementary School Replacement Project was to demolish and rebuild the current College Gardens Elementary School in order to support the International Baccalaureate (IB) and Primary Years Program (PYP). This replacement project provided program spaces for pre-kindergarten through grade five in a new facility. In order to provide a fully-functional, modernized facility, the existing College Gardens Elementary School was scheduled for full demolition in October of 2006. Along with a complete Asbestos Abatement program during the course of the demolition, Dustin supervised and quantified the recycling of waste products during the course of construction. This Construction Management At-Risk project was designed to provide Montgomery County Schools with a new College Gardens Elementary School totaling 95,160 SF, on the existing 7.9 acre site. Located on the existing school footprint, this facility was turned over to the Owner on November 30, 2007. The new facility’s construction incorporated outdoor courtyards and a partial two-story, steel-framed structure with brick exterior façade. The attractive, front-entrance canopies were constructed to clearly identify the main entrance to the school and provide a structured transition into the administrative suites, also located near the front of the facility. Construction of the academic classrooms were clustered and located on two floors. The classrooms on the first level were constructed to include pre-kindergarten through grade one, and classrooms on the second floor included grades two through five.
Upon completion of College Gardens Elementary School, Dustin was awarded four CM At-Risk projects for Montgomery County Public Schools—Cabin John Middle School, Redland Middle School, Garrett Park Elementary School and Glenallan Elementary School.
